This past Wednesday, the sun was shining and Presque Isle's North Bay on Lake Huron was as smooth as glass, making for the perfect opportunity to view the wreck of an unknown three-masted schooner in about 15 feet of water. Here are some pictures of our excursion (click for supersize image)
To visit this wreck yourself, you can launch from Presque Isle Harbor Association's North Bay Beach. Head off toward the New Lighthouse - the wreck is about 300 yards offshore, just before you get to the large log home located on the shore. The shore comes to a short rounded point directly in front of the wreck. You can find the approximate position of the wreck, along with the locations of other activities found in our "Up North Adventures" series on this map:

Well, interesting you went to that wreck, as I canoed over that one whilst visiting my relatives. Weird fact: there is a white toilet (looking to be an american standard) mounted on the north-most end of the ship. Can't remember whether it was the bow or stern end, but what in the blazes? And no one knows what the thing is called, or when it sank. Weird, right? I'm starting to question if the toilet was put there as a joke? I could totally see a bunch of kids in a pontoon, "Hey, let's dump this old toilet on this here shipwreck." XD
