Up North Adventures: Thompson's Harbor

Want to enjoy Presque Isle like the locals do?  Then be sure to visit the magnificent sand dunes and play on the sandy beach at Thompson's Harbor State Park.  The dunes may not look like much from Lake Huron, but when you get up close, you get an idea of how extensive they are.  These pictures don't do them justice either - you'll have to visit and find out for yourself!

The dunes are accessible via about a half mile walk down a trail located on Old State Road, which can be accessed from Co Rd 638 or US-23 N.  Boaters can also anchor in the harbor and swim up to the beach during summer months. You can find the trailhead and the location of the dunes on our Up North Adventures Map.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of wading in the chilly waters of Lake Huron followed by warming your toes in the sugar sand of the dunes on a sunny day.  What a perfect place to have our first beach day of the summer!
