Nowadays, we have the wonderful Pure Michigan campaign to promote our beautiful state. But what was done to promote tourism back in 1949? This nostalgic look at Michigan in the midst of the baby boom focuses on several still-popular destinations like Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, Mackinac Island, and the Upper Penninsula. (Remember, in 1949, there was no bridge to transport tourists to the UP quite yet!)
Be sure to note the cars driving right over Sleeping Bear Dunes (a big no-no these days!) and how quaint and small Traverse City remained at that time. Enjoy this blast from the past!
