Ocqueoc Falls State Park Improvements

Ocqueoc Falls
Ocqueoc Falls is a gem of Presque Isle County and the largest waterfall in Michigan's Lower Penninsula.  In summer, it's a popular picnic area and swimming hole; in fall, a beauty to behold as salmon attempt to leap over the falls and the trees put on their beautiful autumn displays.  The area is also excellent for cross-country skiing come winter.

If you visited the park over the summer, you may have been disappointed by the temporary closure of the parking area and main pathway.  But as we found out yesterday, the small inconvenience was well worth it!

New parking area

There is now a paved drive, parking area, and pathway down to the falls along with individual picnic areas, a "bridge" pathway down to the second falls (remember how treacherous that walkway was?) and faux stone steps that blend in perfectly with the natural surroundings and make the falls more more accessible.

What a huge improvement!  Enjoy these photos of the still-not-quite-complete improvements - you'll be impressed!
